Post on behalf of the: Centre for Health in the Public Interest (CHPI) – Interview requests
“What are the impacts of treatment of private patients in NHS hospitals?
Do you work in a hospital in England as a health professional or health service manager? Would you be willing to share your experiences to inform a research project about recent and forthcoming changes in the NHS?
You are invited to take part in an interview as part of a research project to explore the scale and impact of private patient admissions to NHS hospitals. The research is led by Sarah Walpole on behalf of the Centre for Health in the Public Interest (CHPI). CHPI is a health and social care policy think-tank, which aims to promote evidence-based health policy in keeping with the founding principles of the NHS. The Centre’s work falls into two parts. First, it scrutinises the prevailing orthodoxy within policy making about the benefits of choice, competition and markets and second, it explores alternative solutions to the challenges of providing universal high-quality health and social care.
The Health and Social Care Act allowed NHS hospitals in England to increase the proportion of their income earned through private admissions to 49%. 91,000 private patients were treated in the NHS hospitals in England in the period 2014-15 and we are interested in what effects this has on NHS hospitals and their staff. We would like to ask about any experience that you may have of private patients being treated in NHS hospitals. This will inform our ongoing research, which may include a project analysing quantitative data on private patient admissions and NHS services.
We would like to ask to speak to one researcher (Sarah Walpole) for 30 to 45 minutes. If you are happy to give your consent, we will record the interview. If you are happy to give your consent for this, the interview recording may be shared with two other researchers. It will not be shared outside of this research team. We would use any quotes from your interview anonymously and we would give you chance to verify them before they were included in any published report. We can share the full results of the study with you.
If you would like to find out more and if you may be willing to take part in this study, please contact Sarah Walpole: Sarah.Walpole@hyms.ac.uk, +44 (0) 7517 243 783, argotomunky@yahoo.co.uk
Many thanks for your time,
Best wishes,
